The year is 1912. “You Made Me Love You” and “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” are all the Tin Pan Alley rage at New York City’s turn-of-the-century Palladium Palace nightclub. H.G. Wells, famous author of “War of the Worlds” and “The Time Machine,” takes the stage and unveils his latest invention: a machine that can skip around throughout time, giving the star couple of the Palladium a chance to visit various “future” decades and test their talents in a dizzying array of ever-changing musical styles and tastes.
Could these 1912 performers ever have imagined that their beloved Two-Step would soon fall out of style in favor of the Charleston, followed by the Lindy, the Twist and the Hustle—each having its turn as the latest trend…could they have predicted that Ragtime and Jazz music would, in time, be surpassed in popularity by Swing, Country, Rock ‘n’ Roll, R&B and Disco?…That Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and John Travolta would all succeed Al Jolson as the dominant pop idols of their day?
