"Distinguished Gathering" concerns a dinner party of distinguished guests who are told by their host that their reputations are on the verge of utter ruin. The party's host is a publisher who will soon be releasing the memoirs of one Eliot Vines, an odious man bent on revealing the gathering's closet of skeletons - sexual indiscretion, attempted suicide, military disgrace, corporate corruption and cocaine addiction.
