“Charley's Aunt” at Circle Players

“Charley's Aunt”
by Brandon Thomas

Two Oxford undergraduates, Jack and Charley, have invited their sweethearts to luncheon to meet Charley's aunt, a wealthy woman from Brazil. When the aunt is delayed, the two refuse to give up the opportunity to declare their love to their ladies. They enlist the services of their eccentric classmate Sir Fancourt Babberley, dressing him in petticoats, wig and black satin. As "Charley's Aunt", he meets the young ladies, Jack's penniless father, and Mr. Spettigue, the guardian of Charley's sweetheart. Both the older men vie for the rich "aunt's" hand, and Babberley leads old Spettigue a merry chase until the comic confusion explodes!
