“The Old Settler” at Attic Ensemble

“The Old Settler”

John Henry Redwood's play is set in a period of New York history that was energized by a cultural wave called the Harlem Renaissance. The Old Settler is the story of two two delightful but ever-bickering middle-aged sisters, Elizabeth and Quilly. Romance kindles amidst the tenements of wartime Harlem in this warmhearted dramatic comedy, a tale of the never-married "old settler" of neighborhood slang. Generously spiced with laughter, it is the bittersweet saga of a lonely heart who falls desperately for a younger man, tasting at last the delight, and despair, of mismatched love.
