Upcoming Auditions for NJ Shows

7/6/2009-7/7/2009

Leader Of The Pack ( Main Street Theatre Company )

The Main Street Theatre Company of Sayreville will be producing as well as seeking talent to be part of their production of one of the great “rock ’n roll” musicals, “Leader Of The Pack”, the story of Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry and Phil Spector, the talent behind, not only  most of the rock music of the late ’50’s and early ’60’s, but also the “Girl Groups” it spawned.  With their “Wall Of Sound” style, they helped shape and popularize the sound made famous by groups such as “The Shangri-Las”, “The Ronettes”, “The Shirelles” and “The Shiffons”.  Legendary singers such as Tina Turner, Darlene Love, Little Eva and Leslie Gore sang their hit songs. Songs such as, “The Chapel of Love”, “Da Doo Ron Ron”, “Do Wa Diddy”, “Be My Baby”, “River Deep, Mountain High” and of course the title song, “Leader of the Pack”.  The musical traces their emergence from song writer wannabes to the top song writing team in America, stationed at the world famous Brille Building in New York. The theatre group, stationed at the Main Street Theatre, 3018 Bordentown Ave. in Parlin is seeking male and female dancers and singers, from 15 to 50, who love the music of that era and would like to perform in a musical about those times.  The open audition dates are Monday & Tuesday, July 6 & 7 from 7-9pm.  Bring your own music or sing one of the many hits from the show. Rehearsals start immediately. Show dates are August 7-22.  For  more information or to set up a special appointment, call 732-972-2335 or e’mail: tonysandy13@aol.com

ABOUT THE PLAY:
Written by comic legend Carol Burnett and her daughter Carrie Hamilton, this moving comedy-drama is based on Burnett’s best-selling memoir "0One More Time." Set in California in 1941 and 1951, it tells Burnett’s story of growing up in poverty with two alcoholic parents and a nutty grandmother.  Along the way audiences will witness a young girl’s journey from hardship to Hollywood legend. Ultimately, this is the funny and deeply moving story of three generations of women pursuing their dreams; dreams that end in disappointment, tragedy, and ultimately -- for one young girl -- triumph. Described by some as one part Neil Simon, one part Mama’s Family and one part Tennessee Williams, Hollywood Arms is a wholly original story of humor, heartbreak, love and courage.

Shakespeare’s classic comedy of romance, music, and mistaken identity. Orsino is love with Olivia, Malvolio is love with Olivia, Andrew Aguecheek is in love with Olivia, but Olivia is in love Cesario. Except Cesario is really a girl, Viola, who is love with Orsino. And then Viola’s twin brother shows up!

This version of 12th NIGHT is set in the 1930s. Songs from the period (Gershwin, Porter, Rodgers & Hart, etc.) will be interpolated into the show, so auditioners should be prepared to sing an up tempo song of that type, as well as being prepared to read Shakespearean dialogue.

Characters:

VIOLA: shipwrecked girl who thinks her brother drowned. Disguises herself as a boy, Cesario,  to work at the court of Duke Orsino and falls in love with the Duke.

ORSINO: Duke of Illyria. Commanding and romantic, yet melancholy. In love with the idea of being in love.

OLIVIA: A countess, whose father and brother have both recently died. Determined to wallow in her grief, she refuses all romantic suitors - until she meets Viola/Cseario.

MALVOLIO:  Olivia’s steward. A prim and proper prig. Disliked by just about everyone. Hopes to marry Olivia and become master of her estate.

SIR TOBY BELCH: Olivia’s uncle, whose chief concern in life is to drink and make merry.

SIR ANDREW AGUECHEEK: One of Olivia’s suitors and a blithering idiot. Frequently duped by Sir Toby Belch.

MARIA: Olivia’s maidservant, and partner in Sir Toby’s practical jokes.

FABIAN:  Olivia’s groundkeeper, has a real grievance against Malvolio, and eager to humiliate him.

SEBASTIAN: Viola’s twin brother, who is constantly mistaken for her.

ANTONIO: A sea captain who rescued Sebastian from drowning. In love with Sebastian.

VALENTINE: One of Orsino’s courtiers and his chief security officer.

CAPTAIN: Man who rescued Viola from drowning and aids her in her disguise. Will also double as a priest and Curio, another courtier.
