As an orphan child Jane Eyre is mistreated by her guardian, banished to a strict institution and witnesses the death of her only friend. As an adult, she is dispatched to a gothic mansion to be the governess of a small child. She is immediately attracted to her employer, the brooding Edward Rochester.
