Tom Stoppard Biography

Tom Stoppard
Tom Stoppard

burst on the international theatre scene over thirty years ago with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Since then he has become one of the most acclaimed playwrights in the English-speaking world, moving between plays, screenplays, essays, and plays for radio and television. His work frequently revolves - most often in comic terms around the difficulties of moral/political choice in a baffling world. His other works include jumpers, Enter a Free Man, Night and Day, The Real Inspector Hound, A Separate Peace, Albert's Bridge, Arcadia and Hapgood (these last both played in the same recent season at Lincoln Center). Stoppard co-wrote the screenplay for the current film Shakespeare in Love and his latest play, The Invention of Love, about AE Housman is entering the second year of its sold-out London run.
